Pitril Trails
“I also enjoyed the natural and informal way in which the communities presented themselves, how they taught us, told us about their lives, their culture, their everyday activities and their dreams. It was so simple and natural that allowed for spontaneity and empathy, the kind of communication that doesn´t require any other technology but to be able to look in the eye and talk under a free sky.”
Marcela Palomino Schalscha, Geographe, Santiago
Description
Koniñamco – Madihueiñ track offers the unique opportunity of venturing into the Pewenche culture through ancient paths used from historic times by the community of Pitril in their transit to the Koniñamko (Eagle son) and El Manzano veranadas.
The ancestral route goes into the depths of the Pewenche mountains, passing through forests of oaks, hazel trees and radal in the low lands, and in the higher lands the magnificent Araucaria Forests (Monkey Puzzle tree), where you will be able to share and live the Pewenche veranada experience at the Koniñamco refuge.
The views are astounding along the whole trip, but in particular at the Lonko Waca Viewpoint (Cow head) located at 1,800 meters above sea level, from where you can admire the Callaqui Volcano and a large portion of the Alto Bio Bio Territory.
From Koniñamco refuge, the route goes to the southeast through the Manzano gorge until reaching Ralco National Reserve, crossing by the astonishing Las Bayas pass, at 2,080 meters above sea level. From here it is possible to connect with Rpagcherrube Track (Man from the winds), part of Sendero de Chile, and access the Bio Bio Valley.
