Butalelbún community
Our community is located in the highlands of the Andes Mountains, distant 65 kilometres from Villa Ralco, and bordering with Argentina. Butalelbún, which in chedungún means “field of old people”, is the more distant community in the Queuco Valley, which makes it unique.
The landscape of our community is characterized by the mountain peaks that surround the valley, where most of the population lives. The Copahue Volcano is the main peak of the area, reaching 2,900 meters above sea level.
Despite its high altitude, in our community are vast areas of native forests and magnificent Araucaria forests, where families take their animals in the summer and gather the Araucaria seed, the piñón. In the highlands plateau, it is possible to see beautiful landscapes of high steppe.
In Butalelbún, close families live very near to each other, and always work together.
Most of us practice cattle breeding, and work family orchards for self-consumption. Our women also work in wool handicraft.
In our community there are four tracks you can travel with our local guides: Malalkawello, Inaprachewe, Pichi Mallin and Menukochenke. The experience of a trip in these ancient paths is a unique opportunity to share and learn about our way of life in the Alto Bio Bio mountains.
Welcome to our community, we will be waiting for you!
