Ptra Lafken Trail

“Being able to see and contemplate the landscape is a privilege that makes one think about the natural wealth of the mountains and how close it is to us. Being a little bit closer to the Pewenche people and the families that so kindly welcomed and took care of us is really worthwhile”

Verónica Contreras, Veterinarian

Description

Ptra Lafken Track (The big lagoon), offers the unique opportunity to know one of the most beautiful sceneries and lakes from Alto Bio Bio: Cauñicú Lagoon (Cauñicú: Kawello-co: water horse).

The journey follows a historical path, wide, soft and with no great inclination, which makes it suitable for a wide range of travellers. Along the way, it is an almost magical experience to visit the communities’ Araucaria (Monkey Puzzle Tree) Forests, a place with great cultural significance for Pewenche, and from there you can have breathtaking views of the Callaqui and Copahue volcanos and Sierra Velluda peak.

The journey reaches its crucial point on the shores of the Lagoon, where there is a cosy camp to take your deserved rest in a traditional Veranada post. That is the right moment to share stories and food by the fire. From here, it is highly recommended to follow the Lagoon shores, where it is possible to appreciate abundant bird wildlife.
